“Nurturing Emerging Growth”
As young children begin exploring beyond the bounds of their own immediate surroundings, the Montessori Method helps to nurture their emerging curiosity, their sense of discovery, and their creativity. Our Kindergarten classrooms, created for children 2.5 to 6 years of age, have been designed to foster the development of their linguistic, cognitive, and motor skills. They also help children explore the important roles they have to play within their family, their community, and their culture.
Throughout the classroom, children explore specially designed Montessori materials that are multi-sensory, hands-on, concrete and self- correcting.
There is dynamic interaction among the various curriculum areas of the Montessori classroom. The specific skills of each area build upon each other and are interrelated to and dependent on skills in other areas of the classroom. This connection enhances children’s natural interest in and enthusiasm for learning.
Each child progresses at his or her own individually appropriate pace, allowing each to be appropriately challenged and to become proficient in each area according to individual development needs.
This lovely 5-minute video below, captures beautifully the independence, freedom, responsibility, self-direction, focus and joy that Montessori children experience during a typical Montessori morning. This video was shared with us by our friends and colleagues from Dundas Valley Montessori School. We hope that you enjoy it as much as we do!
